Restrictions placed upon indoor recreational locations

On Monday, March 16, 2020, Ohio Governor Michael DeWine announced on Twitter that he will be issuing an order to close gyms, fitness centers, recreation centers, bowling alleys, indoor water parks, movie theaters and trampoline parks until further notice. This order took effect at the close of business on Monday, March 16th.

Restrictions placed upon bars and restaurants

Governor DeWine recently announced that the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has issued a Director’s Order restricting the operation of bars and restaurants in the state to minimize the spread of COVID-19. The order mandates that restaurants and bars are only permitted to offer carry-out and delivery dining options. In-person dining, however, is prohibited. Governor DeWine also stated during a press conference on Sunday, March 15, 2020 that drive-through operations are still permitted.

Liquor buyback program announced

To help bars and restaurants that purchased alcohol in preparation for events like St. Patrick’s Day and March Madness, the state has also created a buyback program. Under this program, bar and restaurant owners can return unopened, high proof liquor purchased in the last 30 days. This program also extends to those who obtained a temporary permit for an event that was scheduled between March 12, 2020 – April 6, 2020, but ultimately cancelled.

To participate in the program, the bar, restaurant or temporary permit-holder must bring the unopened liquor to the Contract Liquor Agency where it was purchased. The Agency will call the Liquor Enterprise Service Center for approval.
